Workbench finish

Andy F.

>I recently came into a Dieffenbach workbench which, according to the information I have, was factory finished with "hot wax" rather than oil as I would expect. I want to maintain the finish, but I'm not sure what to use. The US distributor was not knowledgeable, the manufacturer's web site has no info on the subject, and their customer service only speaks German. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

>I finished mine with 1 part each of beeswax, turpentine, and BLO. Warmed, it goes on a lot easier and penetrates better. I would guess 'hot wax' is either that or a factoryized version thereof.
