This increases the projection of the chisel edge, which makes honing more comfortable.

Without wheel support, the small projection is very awkward for narrow chisels. I had to use a pencil with eraser to put pressure on the blade tip!

>It's for use on waterstones, scary sharpening will tear up the wheels DAMHIKT. It was designed to hold Japanese chisels. It can only hold chisels up to an inch if I remember correctly (I think a larger version of it as available. It's a bit awkward to hold on to, but it holds thin chisels well.
