Squaring Mortise Face

>I'm cutting several mitered mortise joints for my latest project. It requires that the apron fit into a recess on the leg. I have solved the angle problem at the bottom of the joint, but I need to know how to square up the face of the leg mortise. Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

>I had to do a bunch of mitred m/t joints for some shutters with beaded stiles/rails. I made a maple jig to clamp along the work and used a paring chisel against it to trim the mitre and straighten the joint as needed.

>I would mark a straight line along the face you want to sqaure (a line to trim to) and then clamp a block onto the face and perhaps the back of the leg as well. Then you could take a rabbeting plane or shoulder plane and plane from front to back of the leg to the block.
