>What causes my #80 from chattering. I sharpened it and actually had it working then it started chattering and making a mess of the wood. Any advice would be appreciated.

>When my planes chatter, they are telling me that they are working too hard. Cut too aggressive, movement too quick, etc. Try backing off the blade (expose less). You might also burnish some of the hook off of your blade. Lots of hook = aggressive cut. Sometimes it takes a while to find the sweet spot because each board has its own unique character. Good luck.

>Suggest you double check the depth of cut. In my experience, the #80 is somewhat difficult to set right and will chatter like mad if you go even a hair too deep.
I usually start by setting the thing on a flat surface (like my scary sharp glass) and installing the blade flush with the sole. Then use the screw that bows the blade to get a cutting surface. If this doesn't set an agressive enough cut you can fiddle with it, but there is a very fine nirvana between a productive shave depth and chatterville.
