Help please - wooden 'nails' *LINK*
CONGER - the Irish diaspora in Munich
>I am making a 'barrel top blanket chest' and I wish to pin the 'staves' of the lid in position using wooden 'nails'. I saw this done many years ago, and as far as I recall the 'nails' were cone chaped pins in hardwood. They were placed in holes pre-drilled using a tapered bit.
The closest thing I can find is pictured below.
This supplier also offers the tapered drill bits.
Now, here are the questions!
Has anyone used this method?
How did you make the pins... or where did you buy the pins?
Did you use a tapered drill bit?
Did you use glue?
What special 'gotchas' can be expected?
TIA for your help.
