Beech wood

>As some of you know I build woodworking planes, bench and mouldings (English spelling). I am going to St.Louis this Christmas to pick of some beech for some moulders I have to make. I have been looking for beech wood around the Nebraska area and can't fine any. I use hard maple for planes, but I want to try beech wood. Any ideas as to where to look? (with out spending a whole paycheeck on getting it) Also beech trees don't grow in Nebraska or in most states. (we grow telephone polls, ha ha)

>European beech is commonly used here in Europe for plane bodies. It is different from North American beech - I am not sure how different, but the American beech is probably not as close grained.

The Northern part of NH does have some beech, which is logged there.

Beech is the most common local tree here, but that probably does not help you much in Nebraska.
