Swiss Sources for Pfeil

Brad in Ottawa

>My sister is moving again and will be spending some time overseas. I hope to take advantage of this and get her to find out if Pfeil are cheaper across the pond.

I tried a google search and came up with a lot of sources for Pfeil in North America. Does anyone have prior experience trying to find the Pfeil web site or shopping for them in Switzerland?

Thanks!

Brad

>Brad,

I was wondering the same thing as I will be in Switzerland next week. I have a friend in Zurich who was going to research tool sources for me... if I find out more I will post the info.

good luck,

Matt

>I aquired my Pfeil tools while living in Belgium during the late '90s. I took up carving while there since I couldn't bring along my power tools. It was a wonderful, eye opening experience. Yes, the tools were quite a bit less expensive. I suspect the relative cost at as much to do with currency exchange rates as anything else. The dollar was strong while I was there. I assume now would be a tough time to find a deal. The dollar is at an all time low against many western Europe currencies. But you might be a able to save something. Don't forget the VAT tax in Europe. You will need a way to avoid thet if you want to save money. You can do that by shipping directly to the USA.

Swiss isn't part of the EC so maybe also ex.VAT, but maybe the Swiss-addressed have to pay the postman?

>Many hardware and home-repair stores in Switzerland carry some Pfeil tools. But the best source I have ever seen is a shop on the main street of Brienz, near the national woodcarving school and carving shops. It just carries Pfeil tools (although I don't think its name is Pfeil), and it has every size, sweep, and bend of chisel, gouge, scorp, adze, and drawknife -- drawer after drawer of 'em systematically organized in the Swiss fashion -- plus some accessories.

Pfeil and this shop don't advertize, as far as I know. I understand that they have difficulty meeting demand.

Brienz is a pleasant little town near Interlaken and well worth a visit.

One web posting of the range of tools is www.gaisch.at/Pfeil/pfeil.html

(Disclaimer: No connection etc, although I wish...)
