>I carried a Gerber "Bolt Action " folder for years and really thought it was a great knife. But with Gerbers I think they make two quality lines with the cheap ones, well being cheap.I have a spydico folder that I carry some now and it seems to be a good knife, though stainless and serreated which I don't like.Have heard good stuff about cold steel, and probably Kabar and Schrade are still good esp. in thier moderate to higher priced knives.Truth is with modern knives you get what you pay for.The advantage with modern pocket knives is that they are lighter, have a pocket clip and often are easy opeoners often I think the steel takes a backseat to the older knives esp. if Stainless.Anymore i rarely use my pocket knife much so all this is more important to me and is why I carry the spydico, plus got it cheap and ain't the end of the world if I lose it.
I sort of collect vintage knives and if I wasn't worried about losing them I would,[and do somtimes] carry an older pocket knife made by Ney York Knife co., Cattaraugus, Case XX or some other quality older maker and go with a Marbles hunting knife, or if you didn't want to spend as much $ for a marbles maybe a Western, Kabar, Pal, Case .......Todd , who bought an antique japanese Tanto knife yesterday and would love to carry that!
