Plane Race

>We have a small group of wood workers that enjoy using hand tools. I have heard that a plane race is a contest to determine who can sharpen their plane the best to get the thinnest shaving of long grain, thinnest shaving of endgrain, widest continuous shaving and so forth. Does anyone have an idea where I might learn more about the way a plane race was conducted? We think we might like to try one.
