A&E Baldwin plow

>Went to the flea market to specifically look for a electric motor for my lathe, and instead found a old plow plane that is 99.5% complete. Fell in love it on sight. bought for $35. Got home loked for a makers mark and found "A&E Baldwin" with "New York" below that. got to be 1700's. The two arms are threaded wood, with wooden tightning knobs on one side and flat wooden "washers" on the other side of the body. One of the washers is missing :~( and the closed tote is cracked. Other wise it is in real good shape and has one blade in it. Fella I got it from said that he got it from a widow whose old husband had died about 12 years ago, and the he had gotten from his grandfather. Have I stumbled in a valuable plane? I don't dare clean it, or fiddle with it much until I know.

Still no lathe motor. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh well, I think I done alright just the same.

>Did a quick look on ebay compleated auctions for Baldwin Planes and saw where a very nice extreamly clean AE Baldwin Plow plane was sold on Nov. 30 for $67 [Ebay #6133844004] Was a wedge arm no tote plane which normaly are worth less then ones like yours with a tote though again it was a really nice plane. Think you probably did OK but probably paid close to what it is worth in the condition you described.Go ahead and clean it up....Was about 20 AE Baldwin molding planes listed as being sold, looked like one guy was selling alot of them.Probably found a tool chest with them all in it. Was really suprised at the low prices most seemed to sell for, even wide profile ones that were real clean most times didn't go much over $25. I hardly ever look at tools on ebay and was a little amazed that was all he could get for such nice planes.......Todd

Think I should use it or just display it? Don't seem tight to just display it afterall it IS a tool.

I just want a simple stick the disk in the camera, snap pics, take out disk, put into computer and WA-LA, you've got picture. don't need nor want no memory sticks, cables, ports, docks, etc, etc.

Perhaps in the meantime I can make a tracing of the one I have and sent that along with some measurements, etc, etc, eh?
