>For thoes of you who didn't play this year Ha Ha! This is the present that I made for my reciepany Bob Hackett. It is a Cherriot plane made out of squair tubbing with Monkey Pod stufffing and a copper wedge plate. The blade is out of an ols Sargent block plane that was at the bottom of an auction box. Funny story when I went to the scrap yard about a month or so ago looking for brass bar stock for the wedge support all I could find was copper so I ask if it would work most people said yes but Bob said why not use brass and sent a lever cap casting. well the thumb screw needed turning on a lathe that I don't have and I setteled on the copper for this plane. if he would have only turned it first it would be on this plane. it is set op with a verry tight mouth. I heve a new Makers mark on this one It is a connected WM and a 2. My real name is William E. Miller Jr. the WM and the 2 stands for JR. My dad used to mark his tools WM and I thought it was only right to modify it for my mark.

I expect a full report from Bob on it's performance. I's ask for yours but I think that it would be too biased. ;~)

Don't understand why you're letting the cat out of the bag already tho as Christmas is still a few weeks off.

The reason the cat`s out of the bag I suspect is that I finally dragged my butt down to the post office and picked it up after 3 days of ignoring 2 notices for parcels(too busy herding nurses around at Maine Med).I posted to the Central Santa support group that I recieved it and figured out who it was from so I guess Ernie couldn`t wait to share.

It certainly is a cute little fellow and appears to be a real workhorse too,if my left handed attempts are any indication.

BTW-as an added incentive to heal up and get to work Ernie also sent some severely abused socket chisels that needed alot of TLC and freelance blacksmithing to be brought back.As soon as I`m up to it I plan to put them back into the system complete with handles turned from local hardwood.Maybe I can get Dr Death to come over and take some pics and help me post them when this all comes about,that way you can all see for yourself how nicely this little plane works.

Mainely,Bob-Who has almost convinced SWMBO that the reason he got this gift is because he was SO good while she was away.You noticed I said almost.
