Ron is a straight-talking guy with a wealth of knowledge on a bewildering variety of amateur and professional woodworking topics and concerns. We are fortunate to have him as our guest.

LON SCHLEINING began building staircases in Southern California in 1978. His body of work includes several hundred projects so far, including his share of one-of-a-kind custom designs.
He is a frequent contributor to FINE WOODWORKING and FINE HOMEBUILDING magazines with some 50 articles in print including a special article on making a replica of Thomas Jefferson's writing desk (now part of the Smithsonian's Castle Collection) and the Essential Workbench which appeared on the cover of last year's Tools and Shops issue.
Lon has written three books: one is The Complete Manual of Wood Bending by Linden Publishing, Treasure Chests, and his just-released book, The Workbench, both from Taunton Press. He taught woodworking at Cerritos College from 1995 to 1999 and has since been on a national lecture tour which culminates in a week-long class at the Marc Adams School each summer.
Lon currently maintains his own woodworking shop in Long Beach, California, specializing in staircases, furniture, boats and other assorted gizmos. He lives in Dana Point where he can be found surfing when he's not making sawdust.
