Are you saying you use the small-blade holder in conjunction with the MKII? I emailed LV tech support and was told NOT to do this (although I haven't had a chance to test it out). I don't really remember exactly why they said this, but probably since the blade is only secured with magnets they are concerned it might fall out and be thrown by the turning platter.

Anyway, if you've used it this way (and I admit to having planned to try this myself) it would be good to know and if you have any issues/suggestions.

I can understand the safety issues now that I think about it AND I intuitively was always VERY careful to not press the iron very hard into the spinning platter. It does work for honing.. probably wouldn't be so safe for sharpening. I use the small blade holder far more often on a glass plate with automotive sandpaper.. scarry sharp. But I have used it on the MKII.

Using a plane iron and chip breaker, as mentioned in another post would probably be a safer method which I'll probably try.
