>He's a link to a couple pictures of a workbench I have in progress. I hope to have the top completed this weekend. All I need to do to complete the top is finish the dovetails for the tool tray and cut the grooves for the tray in the end caps and rear apron. I have a wild idea for a method for raising and lowering the height of the bench top, but I'll comment on it after I start building the base and know that it will actually work.

>Well, it is mounted and works well, but I will likely build another at some point. The core is not quite square which required some shimming to get the outer part of the vise square to the top. Plus, my dovetails on the sides leave a lot to be desired. It will be easier next time since I know what to look for during construction.

Personally I have taken mine apart 5 times and remade bits and it now sits there unfinished still pondering that great looking vise. I also made my bench out of cheap oak and made the mistake of not finishing it real fast. There's a big pile of Maple in the basement thinking towards my 2nd bench. Your post was inspirational maybe I'll take that vise apart and fix it this weekend. Thanks
