Sadly, this jig addresses sharpening the main blade (the easy task) and doesn't help with the curved tip (the hard part, IMHO)

>I have this and it works great. A little challenging for large knives (chefs/butchers knife) since the stones are small but a consistent angle and a very fine edge. The kit comes with 5 different stones, honing oil and angle gauge. And you can do both bevels without taking the knife out of the gauge and resetting.

>I've used the Lansky on plane blades - but they have to be the slotted kind. I used it on plane blades before I got my current set up. (Scary Sharp) It works pretty well espcially on cambered blades. I also agree they are great on knives.

I have the Lansky kit too. It works; and that's just about the best thing you can say about such gadgets.

I use it to sharpen my 10" chefs' knife with no trouble--after I discovered I need to move the clamp-thingy from one end to the other.

Jack, I've heard lots of things descibed as "idiot proof"; I think too often people underestimate the ingenuity of idiots.
