It makes sense, but only if you're routinely using your block plane to face plane surfaces that are prone to tear out and will be seen in the finished project.

My major use for a block plane is tweaking fits.

Yes - it makes sense to do if you have the application/requirement for a higher angle. Our LA block (with the ball tail) can be thought of as a LA #1 size plane...only with a better grip.

All of the benefits of using a LA plane with a high angle blade hold for the LA block. Keep in mind that many refer to the #62 and #164 as block planes too.....

I agree with you in principle but would go even further.

I have been planning to do something along these lines for my Stanley #18 knuckle joint. This has a cutting angle of 45 degrees, which is where you are presenting aiming. My thoughts are to add a blade with a cutting angle of 64 degrees (as per my LV LA Smoother) and use it to clean up small areas of tearout.

(I really hate stepping up on this soap box again; but as about the only person alive who hasn't jumped aboard the low-angle juggernaut, perhaps I must.)

My standard angle is my only block plane. I've never found the need for a low angle. I keep the mouth narrow, the iron sharp and set for a fine cut. It's never let me down. For me there's no contest: a standard block is more versatile, and so far my standard block plane faultlessly does everything expected of a low angle.
