help re-forging screwdriver tip

>I have always enjoyed rehabing old items and could use a little advice. I have acquired several old wooden handled screwdrivers and have brought most of them up to user condition. There are a few that have been ground back to the point that I would like to flatten the ends a bit and reform. I know I can heat them up to the point that this can be accomplished but am unsure as to how to properly harden and temper them after. Any advice would be most welcome.
