Sounds like the frog was damaged,[hard to tell from the description] but if not the frog would be worth $25-$35 at least. Also there is a market for the frog screws / pins in the past i have gotten as high as $25 for just them ..... Todd

There is a local guy that has a garage sale once a year, and I noticed a box full of parts there earlier this year. The first thing I noticed was what I thought to be a 604 body, but then he showed me it was a 603, and it had the worst looking weld on it you have ever seen on a plane. It had all the parts in the box, plus 5 other nice rosewood totes, and another #3 lever cap, for $50. I find it impossible to pass up what I think is a good deal in the tool world, so I brought it home. Now a few months later I found this good deal on the other 603 on ebay that looks great and doesn't have a welded side, so I guess I'll be parting out the first 603. cha-ching ;)

Perhaps I should put that round cheek 603 sole up on the 'bay and see what I can get for it eh? I'd probably be better off than spending the $$$ to find a frog for it. Kinda' hate to tho since I only paid $5 for it IIRC, might of been $10. Dang CRS. Other than the top of the frog being broken off, the tote cracked, and the lever cap missing it's in great shape.

>That's my plan Joe. I don't particularily need a Bedrock lever cap, and ajusting the blade is no big deal. Never used a Bedrock before, let alone a round cheek one, so I ain't gonna shelf it while waiting for a un-busted frog. seems to me that in days of old a craftsman trying to put food on the table would'nt either. Coarse, if I relied on my woodworking to put food on the table I'd starve to death.

I kinda' sorta' like Craftsman repairs as well as homemade tools. I like the ingenuity behind them.
