>I have been offered 3 or 4 logs of Yellow pine. The logs vary between 8' 12' and 16' and the averaage base diameter is about 18"-2'. Right now I don't have any plans to buils any thing that uses yellow pine, thus I have no idea how to tell them to saw it up or if I want it all.

I have to store this stuff too. The bottom of the barn is gettiing full. There is plenty of space on the second story of the barn. I do not relish the idea of pulling a wet 12' 6x6 up to the second story.

Any suggestions on how to have it cut in useful lengths, cuts, or warp proof manner?

>I would have most of it sawn 1" thick with about 1/4 of it cut 2 1/4" thick that way you will have some stock available for leg stock. I can't see any reason to have a 6X6? for furnature Stack and sticker it by the time it is drw you will have a project in mind.

>Tough call - hard to turn down free wood, but you may spend as much getting it in order as you would if you bought already sawn. If you can get it to a sawmill or get one of those chainsaw mills (there was a good thread on this a few weeks ago) it may be worth it.

I had a 4-foot long found ponderosa pine log of the same diameter. I ripped it in half with a chainsaw, then quarter-sawed it on my bandsaw. Came out with real pretty straight grain. Never used it, though.

>I would have it all quarter sawn to 4/4. Very useful stuff when it is cut that way. Shop projects, shor furniture, internal parts of furniture, drawer side backs and bottoms, actual furniture.
