Handles for Shooting Board Planes
Paul in NJ
>The thread "My new T5" got me into the shop to try an idea I had for a shooting board plane. Stanley's version had a canted handle as William mentioned later in the thread. I made a wood spacer for my #5 that fits between the handle and the plane body and cants the handle 45 degrees. I had to move the handle aft to offset the fastening screws but I think there is enough room to offset the handle forward the same amount. I think that will improve the balance. I think it works nicely and I will be looking for a #6 for my shooting plane but then again I might modify a wooden jack (more bearing surface). I think it would be great if Lee Valley or Lie-Nielsen would offer one for their low angle planes or maybe to retro on Stanley planes. What do you think?
