Arkansas Stone Question

>I remember reading somewhere that a hard Arkansas stone will "settle down" with use in that it abrades the steel less after much use. I bought a Norton wide bench hard translucent Arkansas stone from Joel last January and just yesterday turned it over to use the other side. There was a noticeable difference in the greater amount of tooth on the new surface. I liked the feel of the new side. I can't say honestly that it performs better because I've only sharpened one chisel so far. I was just wondering what experience others have had. I do use enough oil with the stone and use extra oil when I am finished to clean off the surface.
