>My son has asked me to help him construct a new bed for his truck....a flat bed style. Do you folks think white oak would be a good choice? What steps would you take to 'weatherize' the wood? TIA.

It is a tough job. A coworker did it with softwood and for the effort now wishes he had used Oak. Try to get new hardware. Using old stuff (hardware) is tedious.JR

>but not so much fun when you're shoveling or sweeping out the bed. I'd go for smooth, myself; after a season in the weather, it'll be rough enough for traction.
