>I found one of these at the local pawn for $25. There is some rust but the japanning is good and the handles are excellent. Is that a fair price for just having as a user? I did think the 2-piece cap lock was cool.

>Miller Falls planes are a favorite of mine. I have a collection consisting of a #8, #9, #10, #11, 2-#14's and a #18. I feel that the segmented lever cap and large support surface on the frog gives the plane superior performance over the latter day Stanley's. The only draw back, if you want to call it that, is that the cast Iron on the sole seams softer, making it easier to flatten.
The price you paid seams to be right where it should be. That's my 0.02 and I give change.

>I paid just about the same for a 14C at a local antique store a few years ago. This was one of my first "old" tool purchases. Nice plane. I buffed the crud off the lever cap (yep, two-piece) a bit too hard and wore through the chrome plate. Almost looks like a copper film under the chrome (or cadmium). Hope yours is flat or easy to flatten.

>I've got one, and it is an excellent plane. The two piece chip breaker was supposed to provide better clamping and less chatter for the iron. I think Clifton, IIRC, is using that idea today.
Thank you gentlemen.

>Thanks for the feedback. I run across Stanleys all the time but have only found 2 Millers Falls Planes in the wild here in Central Iowa. Sounds like there aren't any caveats I need to worry about so I just need to get it cleaned up. Thank you.
thanks Matt...

>...your inquiry, and subsequent responses, encouraged me to bid on and win a Miller's Falls #9 to go with my 14 and 18. They are truly well made planes and I'm sure you will enjoy using yours.
