Hunter's Moon Tonight--OT

Wiley Horne--Glendora CA

>Hi All,

SWMBO just hollered in to alert me not to miss the Hunter's Moon this evening. She thought that others in the Northern Hemisphere (sorry folks from Oz and NZ) might be interested, too, so I pass this along.

As the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow, it first goes pale and cold, then turns red. The Moon first enters Earth's shadow at 6:14pm Pacific, 8:14pm Central, 9:14pm Eastern, and 01:14am (tomorrow morning, the 28th) GMT. What is called 'totality' begins an hour and 10 minutes later, at 7:23pm Pacific, 9:23pm Central, 10:23pm Eastern, and 02:23am GMT. Totality lasts an hour and 20 minutes.

Here's the skinny from NASA.

>And here in Western Europe at about at first pee trip before breakfast.

The full moon rise this evening was spectacular. Clear and cold evening with sunset over the water and the moon rising over the marshes.

Thanks for the heads up!

>Will have to look out at 8:00 or so... full moon last night was cloudy here. Has been overcast and cloudy most of the day. Hoping it will burn off by 8:00 PM.

Thanks again for the update.

Hope all is well at your end!

>At this moment the sky is clear, and the moon is bright. Will check on it again around 9 pm.

I see this as a good omen for the Red Sox. what better way to break The Curse Of The Bambino than under a blood red hunters Moon?

Thanks for passing along this cool event Wiley.

>Todd O,

Please let us know what you see in Florida. I gotta wait til next year, looks like. Don't want to jinx the Sox, but it's looking pretty good so far.

Wiley ...... trying to guess Jesper's age from the pee schedule. It'd be my second time up.

Clear here :~)

>Wiley,

I just came in from about 15 minutes on moon watching. Looks like the elclipse has started. If the moon was a clock the the numbers 6, 7, and 8 are covered in black. guess I don't fully understand this. Was there to be a total eclipse first?

Missed the 'Sox scoring two runs while I was out there. Good thing I'm taping the game eh?

sorry for the bad weather you're having Wiley, that's are bummer. I'll try to keep you posted.

What's everybody else seeing?

100% eclipse.....

>and the moon does in fact lok to be dark red. Pretty cool.

Say, should we all be out in our shop sharpening a chisel or plane blade at this magical, mythical time. Seems to me that under these circumstances the edge should take on and keep the sharpest of edges eh?

Ahhhhhhh well, to late for that. Maybe I'll just get naked and dance in the backyard while chanting Red Sox, Red Sox instead. ;~)

What's the moon look like in Maine, Jack?

Sorry I didn't know enough to tell you what to look for (I didn't know myself). And it's a complicated sequence.

Here's what actually happened in photos. Note that the captions give the East Coast time.
