Ain't it Loverly

Patrick Gibbons, Houston, no Astros in the WS, TX

>A year or so ago I bought a Millers Falls #18 (fore/try plane) off of ebay for a very cheap price. The plane was missing some finish on the tote and jappaning on the body. Cosmetically it wasn't as pretty as other planes I've acquired. When I got it in my hot little hands I noticed that it had been used quite a bit. Read that as used, not abused. It didn't seem to need any fettling except to sharpen the blade. The blade had been sharpened in the past but was done right, unlike others I have gotten. I used this plane yesterday and it just sings. And sings well, I might add. If it's an aria from Madame Butterfly, other planes I have spent many hours fettling sound like me in the shower or an alley cat trying to impress his girlfriend.
