Guess I just felt sorry for the guy that was going to get skinned and since I didn't think I would be the skinner because I didn't want all that other stuff and pay the postage so figured I would email him.Seller emailed me back that since he had a bid,[$9] he thought it best not to stop the auction and relist the bedrock by it self. A large mistake on his part for sure. Then Got to thinking maybe i will bid on the lot and just have him send me the Plane and few other things, but then I missed it anyway.I would have only gone to $75 or so.

I think ebay prices are doing pretty well right now on lots of stuff tools included. Just sold a rather ordinary, but nice,Stanley tote from a no.5 last night for $29.Ordinary Stanley bench plane prices are down but this No.5 will bring me over $50 by being smart and breaking it up to sell for parts. Put a clean older Disston No. 16 panel saw up the other day and it shot up to $130 in the first day. Yesterday I looked at several auctions of nothing special Everlasts that were in the $120-$200 range.I passed a few at $25 at the tool show Friday and now I know I was stupid to do so....In the end while some prices might be down most are still pretty high. I most always feel I do very well with what I sell on it ......Todd , who thinks that N0. 16 just might hit $200

Wow, Todd. I'm kinda' surprised after all the stuff you've said over the years about what would happen if you were buyin' a tool, and some "helpful expert" gave the seller some crucial (and price sensitive) information.

I seem to remember bodily violence was mentioned ;-)

Thanks Bugbear,I don`t know how much longer I could have held out.Meddling in other`s affairs AND breaking up tools in the same post,it`s just not fair.;^)

Mainely,Bob-Who just can`t get it thru his thick head that there`s a hook at the end of that line.

I certainly don't feel sorry for this guy, and I sent out payment today for the total bill without any extra. I like the plane, and have a welded one I will probably sell as a parts plane to pay for this box of tools, which has a number of parts in it I'll probably re-sell to get some of the cost back too. Plus, when I see something go cheap I tend not to poke and prod at it, just get in the last few minutes and see what happens, so I'm certainly taking a risk of getting something that isn't worth what I paid for it. If someone is too lazy to do a simple search of completed items on e-bay to see what their item is worth, I don't feel sorry for them. He probably got more money for the lot than he was expecting, and I got a plane that I will probably use for years and my daughters can probably sell it for more than I paid for it. It's a good feeling ;)

While I might be mistaken I think I said in the past that I don't think it is MY job to tell others who are competing against me what they are bidding on at an auction and what it is worth.While I might not like the results if sombody told the bidder standing next to me that the 603 I wanted to buy was worth $150 I really couldn't say anything about it and wouldn't since it would be none of my bussiness.Today at the auction there was a mint in a box sweet heart 5 1/4 and a 5. Another fellow i know saw them too and me and him fliiped a coin and he won but my friend Dr.Jim wanted them to. I told Jim the 5 1/4 looked like a $150 plane to me and he bid and got the pair for $75 I don't think i did anything wrong though I didn't see any reason to tell the coin flipper about it.

With the ebay seller of the 603 I did sort of brake my rule I guess of minding my bussiness but at the time I didn't think i was going to bid on it,[and i didn't] so didn't see any harm to me to tell him and as it turned out didn't affect me ,or probably anybody else for that matter in the long run. Really don't think it was a big deal, just my good deed for the day , eh?.....Todd

>You're e-mail address is not included; can you e-mail me? I find most of these old sharpening stones to be so poorly taken care of and dished out that they are beyond service for sharpening plane irons, but perhaps usable for other items. I'll see when I get the stones what they look like.
