Some details...

CONGER - The Irish diaspora in Munich

>No Chris, the back is T&G (15mm -- 5/8" tongues for movement) with trad. bevelled-to-roundover (help from tailed apprentice) visible joint parts at the front, and bevel-to-bevel at the rear. The back boards are floating - with 15mm (5/8") total movement allowed.... I am optimistic.

Shiplapped, as I understand is like a ('half')lapped clinker... sounds cool... but I have made other furniture with with T&G and this has met has passed the apporoval board (aka. GHQ).

The maple was not well selected. The sides had a flaw inside that propagated from top to bottom. That is why I had to put a 'botch' piece on the tops (NO MOISTURE INGRESS!)... not a good move, but these are just the 'practice' shelves for 'the real thing' (better stock).

The cherry is glorious... consistent - but patterned. I have intentionally NOT stained anything... so you can 'live' the nature of the wood.

The base has my 'patented' cork feet (4 bottles of good french wine). I used the excellent fish glue from Lee Valley.

The sides are 40mm (1 3/4") thick, the shelves are 25mm (1"), and the back is 20mm (3/4"). So the entire piece 'sits well'.

BTW... only one infill in stable --- so far. Great smoother!
