>In "Furniture & Cabinet Construction" by Rae, he suggest gluing the cabinet carcass into a rabbet cut into the top of a base. My carcass is frame & panel so the portion of the cabinet glued into the rabbet would be horizontal long grain.....same as the rabbet. If I made the rabbet 3/4" to 1" deep, do you think I'll have a problem with wood movemen/splitting? I don't think so but I thought I'd throw it out for some comment.

>No problem. Wood does not move along it's length. This joint would be the same as a panel glue up, grain wise. The "problem" is that it is difficult to get a real tight joint on the front and sides (like a clamped joint). Since the glue is not gap filling; I always use screws to attach the base.
