Hand plane storage cabinet

Glenn Madsen

>Hello, all! New here, but as a refugee from the wReck, many of you are already familar to me.

I have a growing collection of working handplanes, which now, unfortunately are relegated to the carpet-lined drawers of a Craftsman Mechanics Rolling tool cabinet. As they are overflowing the available space, and seem to be gathering in numbers, I've been considering more appropriate, wall hung storage.

Something inspired by the notion and function of the the Studley cabinet. Not that I'm looking for Smithsonian quality, or even capable of it. Some place to store handplanes, saws, chisels, layout and marking tools, etc., some of which have some sentimental display value, having come from earlier generations. ((But I am really NOT a collector.))

I've seen Norm's version, at least electronically. Do any of you enthusiasts have something of which you are proud, to which you'd like like to post a link?

Thanks in advance!

Glenn

>Glenn,

Has the'Wreck gone under or something? At any rate I do believe that you have found the best place to be.

Handplane storage, what a pain. I've had mine stored in several different ways of the years. right now they are on a shelf on my workbench. Have no idea what scheme will be next.

>The wReck seems to be suffering from the baggage of political crap which inundates USENET, particularly in this season.

Ruining wood, and talking about ruining wood, is my primary escape from reality. Even with all these tools, it's cheaper than pills, and sometimes, something nice actually results from it.

>This is indeed a beautiful piece. Yes, there are many potential ideas to use for mine, which isn't likely to get to quite that level of detail...

IIRC, there are Yoders in my family tree, on the Schrock side of the family. Out of Western PA, and of the Mennonite tradition.

So, thanks again, Cousin! (At the very least, in the Neander tradition!)

>Warmest thanks to all for those links! Following all of them, particularly Christian's, filled several enjoyable hours.

And I've learned that some of you are far more addicted to tool gathering than I am, which is a small comfort.
