Stanley Plane Q's
Joel Oswald
>I just received my plane lot from ebay today: in it are four number 5's, a craftsman number 4 size, an american boy block plane, and a type 9 number seven. They are all very rusty.
I have a few questions:
I started to clean the number seven a little, when i noticed a crack! Noooo. It is a hairline crack, in the usual spot, except it doesent go all the way to the mouth. Is this repairable? Should I just clean it up and display it? Sell the parts? What can be done with it?
Question two: One of the number fives has no markings at all on the bed (at least I have not found any throught the rust, but I am sure there are non.) But it has the non kidney lever cap with stanley on it, and it has the "V" log on it. It has a low front nob, but the tote appears to be a replacement, and is cracked. Is this a "frankenplane"? Or did the "V" logo planes have no bed markings?
Thanks a lot.
