I've been using 3/4" paper wheels for 10+ years myself. I was amazed on how fast it puts a hair shaving edge on my tools, 30-45 seconds. A few months ago I made some shooting boards for my planes and could not get a square edge on my stock. After investigating, all of my plane irons are concaved. I squared them up on the belt sander and went back to the paper wheel using my Veritas grinding thingy. I was making concaved edge again. Sadly, I have gone back to my water stones. On the bright side, I can shoot a full curl and square now. I will keep the paper wheel and the dedicated grinder for things that don't need a perfectly square edge; such has pocketknives and such. Anyway, that has been my experience.......Dale

It means all my jigs and holders are wrong and I haven't been able to hand hold my blades steady enough to get a good square edge consistently. I have gone back to a combination of diamond stones and scary sharp.

Carvers don't have to worry about flat backs (bench chisels) and straight edges (plane blades), on their funny shaped tools.
