Quiet saturday at the flea martkt

>Well, it was - but then it is not that I really need anything. Still, ended up with a couple of nice clamps, a very clean Stanley 3/4" 750 chisel, a very comfortable 8 oz ball peen hamer (going to be nice for planking canoes), and an excellent Porter-Philadelphia era 14" Disston back saw. I don't like the handles on the later saws, but with a scraper and a rasp and an hour or so of work you can make it into a quite nice handle and much more comfortable. The saw was later than I usually buy, but was like new and still sharp, and for $7.00 can't complain.

Sometimes think Saturday is the best day of the week - off on the hunt, and with the pleasure of finding a few things that I can use. Also the chance to pass up a lot of things that I have found I don't need, or that I already have enough of. Always makes me appreciate what is waiting for me at home.

And part of getting home is removing labels. The ones today were stuck on plenty good. I have the found the best thing for getting label adhesive off is a citrus based cleaner called DE-Solv-It. I get it at Bed, Bath..... and it works great - use it with a little 0000 steel wool and almost anthing comes off without damaging the finish. Now to go and do some work.

>Don't sound to bad to me Stephen. Probably got out of there for about $15 and you've got some goodies that'll last ya' a lifetime. Heck fire man, I didn't even go FMing this weekend due to lack of funds. Actually, it's not as bad as it sounds, as Ineed to spend some green on a blade or two for my BS real soon, so, what with Christmas coming right up I need to be a bit tighter for awhile. :~(

I don't mind those stickers as much as I might those dern paint markers. Sure, go ahead you stupid bass-ted write the asking price on the wooden handle. I hate that.

>Gratifatee wipes! they smell like banannas. they will remove most any thing but be gental as they will remove japaning to if you use them to hard. My weekend was simular to Stephen's I only spent $9 though bought an #80 some cabinet maker's rasps an 8' steel step lader old gas stove jack stands and a 3/8" chisel along with some stuff I left at the auction house. being a big boy I figured a heavy step lader was needed. and who in there right mind adds a #80 to an anteek stove that is not selling? it was fun though.
