I picked mine up at a sale for $30 and it was interesting to put it togeher and get everything set up. The Hock CB and blade are really nice and worth the $30 alone.

It works OK. I left the bottom unfinished but sanded it smooth to 600 grit. I then waxed it and that did the trick.
The pieces of wood that come with the kit stand proud in the front and back about half an inch. The brass is pretty rough but it all cleans up pretty well. The brass has no holes but you slap the template on and drill both side, then you countersink the screw holes. I did the rough shaping on my stationary belt sander, including the brass bevel. I then finished it off with hand sanding to about 400 grit.
I used a Min-wax wipe-on oil finish and was really happy with how that turned out.
It was fun experience but I would do things differently regarding the mouth opening. I was trying to get the front and rear curvature close to the original and the wood in the kit would only allow so much room.
I does work fine for me though.
