>For a draw bore mortise; the pin needs plenty of "grip" on both sides of the tenon. This normally means all the way through. If you have a thick leg, and do not want the pin to show; drill through the back and almost through the front.

Tex, from a conservators point of view, we love to see them go all the way through. It make it so much easier to drift the pin out from the back side when disassembly is required.
