3 Cheers To Greg Sloop!

Todd O. Cronkhite Native of Maine

>What an ordeal I've put myself thru, tho it pales in comparison to Jeannes' havoc.

Lat friday I decided to finally set about "fixing" my computer and dorked it up in ways that you read about. Seems one shouldn't go deleteing programs if one dosen't know what it is eh? DAMHIKT

Once I had matters well in the state of bad to worse, Greg Sloop offered to help me out and by gosh he done just that.

Without going seep into details this is what happenened:

He contacted me via telephone Sunday evening, and we went to work for several hours. Due to some unforseen hardware problems we couldn't fix it than, so he contacted me this afternoon and after a few more hours he got me straight again. :~)

Asked him how I could repay him, and he said if I found a #8, or a rebate plane for cheap that would do nicely. Now how's that eh? Guys like Greg probably get at least $50 an hours for their talents, and he says an ol' #8 will fill the bill IF I find one.

I just can't put into my words my Gratitude to Greg for his help. He is certainly the apidamy of what this group is all about, helping each other in time of need. Priceless, priceless, priceless.

Greg, Thanks again, it's fellas like you that help to restore my Faith in mankind.

Gotta split now, Daughter went to talk to an Army recruiter today and is suppose to call me and tell me about it. Will catch up on the post probably tomorrow.

Hip, Hip Hoooray, Hip,Hip Hooooooooray, Hip, Hip Hoooooooray!! Thanks Greg :~)

>A friend of mine at work goes to garage sells and flea markets all the time. He is always on the lookout for planes for me. He said a guy had a #8 Bailey for $50. He said it was in good shape. I'll ask him tonight at work if he can still get to it if your interested.

Why thanks Todd. You're very generous.

Really it wasn't bad at all.

In Todd's favor - he actually had the CD's that came with the computer - at hand no less! Turns out this was a very good thing. The driver for his video card is not available from Gateway. It appears a third party did the driver and Gateway isn't allowed to distribute it any more.

(I knew there was a lot of reasons I stopped dealing with Gateway! I mean, hey, a *video* driver? It's like claiming you can't get air cleaners for that car that's only 10 years old - you just have to make sure you *never* lose the old one!)

Anyway, it was my pleasure.

And really, no #8 is required. (It will be a dang long time before I spring for one from LN though - ugh, the cash!)

Cheers all!

Greg

PS. Here's a message I'll bet you techie folks have never seen! "VNC Desktop:Current display is PLANER, not CHUNKY!" Hey, are we talking Skippy peanut butter or software here?!

(Had to do with VNC running on a 8 bit color. There are some optimizations that wouldn't run in 8 bit mode.)

>sounds like a good trade.

the only way to learn a computer is to screw it up then fix it (G) this is my preffered method (G) though anymore I rather trade a plane to have a new computer put together. far less headaches (G)

>SO is shipping to him going to be cheaper than shipping to you? I'll keep my eyes open for you. Rebate plane are we talking 78? or an old woodie bodger type plane?

>Thanks Rusty, but guess I'll pass. Greg has made it clear that he is not really into fettling old planes due to time constraints. $50 for a #8, that is a good deal for somebody tho.
