How to ship a saw

>I found a nice Diston D-28 and I want to ship it. I've never shipped a saw before. I'm trying to figure out what kind of box to use and where to get it. Also, would the post office handle this or would it have to go UPS?

Also, this saw has the original tag with it, attached with a loop of string. Would it be safer to take the tag off and put it in an envelope to protect it or would that spoil the effect of having the tag on the saw?

I'm new to wheeling and dealing with saws, so my questions may seem very basic.

>When I ship something flat, I usually go to a local store and find a box in the trash that when folded flat,is large enough to contain the item along with adequate packing material, like bubble wrap or newspaper to protect it. Then I just tape the heck out of the edges. It ends up looking like a large cardboard envelope. Something like a saw is light enough that it would probably be as economical to ship either by UPS or USPS, whatever is more convenient.

What i do is just get a piece of cardbord like off a big box at the dump cut it so it is just a bit longer then the saw fold it over and put the saw in it.If the cardbord is a little thin i might cut another strip of cardbord to put over the blade but this is probably not really needed.On a mint saw like this sounds like I would wrape the handle in a piece of paper, if particular bubble wrap wouldn't hurt but probably again not needed. Sounds like a mint collectable saw and if so I would NOT cut the tag off for certain.If you can take it off so it wouldn't show I might.......OK if you never take any of my advice take this Do NOT ship with UPS instead use the US post Office ! I have shipped literaly 1,000's of items with the US post office and can count on two fingers the problims I had. I have used UPS maybe 12 times and have had problims with 6 of the items they sent and had to fight them tooth and nail to get the insurance.I wouldn't use them to ship a brick going across the road....ask me about the box they ran over and they refused to pay the insurance even though it had tire tracks on it!....Todd
