Has anyone tried this w/ a 71?

>While trying to figure out the best way to mortise out door strikes on pre-existing jambs with my 71, I tried pulling the cutter out and rotating 90 degrees which put it as the leading outside edge of the tool. Will this setup work? (Naturally I was already away from the jobsite when I thought of this idea, or I would've tried it myself).
