Rob Lee or LN make a Stanley 71!

George D. Huron

>Help! I just bought some Stanley 71 and 71 1/2 on ebay thinking that I would buy the blades from St. James Bay Tool Company. I called them and they said that they don't have them anymore. Rob, LN make some blades please! Anybody know where I can find these. England?

Stanley still has them *LINK*

David Miller from Iowa

>Page 9. Big PDF, takes a while to load. These are for the English-made ones, but I think they fit all. You send your money right to New Britain - who knows where Stanley keeps then in these days of outsourcing. India probably.

>About a year ago I was at a WW show and Tom LN was there. I asked about the Stanley Router Plane and he indicated he was looking at it but was not happy with the Stanley adjustment mech. It's possible that you may see a LN version some time in the future.

I think he also was looking at producing a combination plane sometime in the future.

>Hi George,

have you checked with Ron Hock? I don't recall seeing them on their website, but he seems to be willing to make just about any type of blade you can supply specs. for. I've also heard of people making cutters for router planes out of Allan keys/wrenches. I have no experience with this and have never seen one though. Grind and harden I guess.

>Geez George -

We've yet to make a plane like any of Stanley's yet - why start with a 71?

OTOH - we do have something that does all that and more on the go... :)

'Course, we have to find a place for the milled circles, and come up with some contentious knob design (or material)...

Cheers -

Rob

>I am a fan of your planes and I own several. If you can improve on the 71, by all means do but today the world is without a mass manufactured router plane with venier adjustment and that can make for a galoot unfriendly world.

May I suggest...

Bob Hackett

>That neat(?) molded plastic that Bill Tindall,of chisel fame, had a source for?Maybe something in hot pink or dayglow orange?

The heck with milled discs, you have CNC.Why not just pull out ALL the stops and mill some textured flames as a grip area?Flames always go with black paint.

Let me know if you need anymore help in the design department.;^)

>Hi Bob -

Wait 'till next April.... :)

We caught a number of people years ago with Woodcuts magazine - when we did a little write-up on "dovetape" (pre-printed dovetails on adhesive tape)...

Have to be careful doing stuff like that - some people aren't amused...
