>Does anyone know of a site where there are dimensions of Gerstner cabinets? I'm interested in making something along those lines, but I've never spied one in the wild and am curious about basic dimensions (thickness of major components) and joinery.

Thanks

>Thanks, Dean, but I'm looking for thickness of parts, etc. In particular, the sides seem to be joined cross-grain to the ends. What's up with that or am I just wrong?

I'm on the Gerstner list, and a chest the size I want would take up my whole tool budget for several years. Plus I have a walnut tree that has dried for two years, slabbed and ready to go.

>Hi Y'all,

Bruce, the drawer front, backs and sides are all 3/8" material. The drawer bottoms are a thin piece of tin, set in a very thin slot 1/8" from the bottom. Drawer runners are female in the drawer sides. (1/4" x 5/32") There are no dividers between drawers. The carcass is all 1/2" material. All joinery is of a tongue and grove type.

The key to making these cabinets perform smoothly is well seasoned wood and the precise set up of fences in production. I've never seen any movement in the wooden components of mine. And all the drawers operate very smoothly. There is nothing complicated about these things. You should have no problem making one at least as good if not better.
