Thanks for sharing your ideas! One additional variation you might consider for the 'nightstand': is to use breadboard ends on the top.

One example of how this has been done is shown here from the front and here from the back.

This is a piece from the early 1900's by the American architects Greene & Greene.

>I'm not so fond of breadboards nor symmetry, but in this style I think the inner edge of the breadboard should line up with the inner vertical edge of the the leg.

>Thanks, Wiley, but that's what I thought, probably was unclear. I was suggesting that I'd like it a lot more if the breadboard wasn't centered, but instead lined up with the leg on the interior. Perhaps my real objection is the dark color. I do like the inlay.
