>A good hard candle is what I use. Parrifin wax is perfect also. Just scribble a giant S on the sole. It sort of burnishes the work a little. As for your other question about refibing a old plane look in the articles section and have a look thru the archives there's loads of info.

I use parafin wax, just keep a block on the bench, and it helps a lot.

>Wax or oil. For wax all I use is a parfin stick (just like mom use to top her canning jars with), a used up non-colored candle works well too. For oil you need to make an oil wick. Start off with a tuna or similar sized can. you can use oil wicks (think kersone heater wicks here), old towels or tee shirts and wet with thinned down BLO. Some like the wick better cause you just run it over the wick and keep on planing. I perfer the rest break I get by using wax.

It probably lasts about 5 min of hard planing on a sticky, resinous timber and takes about 2 sec to replace.

All you do is just draw a squiggle onto the sole of the plane.
