Siegley Question?

OK � I have several Siegley combination planes, but most of them are the later models with the dial advance. Then there is the early model that has the lever advance � let�s talk about that one � I can�t get it to work. In theory, one should loosen the cutter lock, which is cambered like a 45 lock except it has teeth. Then, stick the blade in and draw the cambered lock back until the teeth engage, then you work the lever and the cutter advances or retracts. However, this one doesn�t seem to have clearance � the locking part sticks way out when it is tight - 3/8�. Plus, mine doesn�t want to rotate, as the teeth are not in a perfect arc.
Did this one ever come with notched cutters to engage the teeth?
Any other ideas?
