Steiner Planes Info?

Todd Hughes

>Anybody know about Steiner wood planes? I picked up 4 the other day, 2 molding planes, a smoother and a plow plane[w/3 cutters]. They are modern planes and look to be from Europe. Kind of ugly and "funny" looking but look pretty well made. normaly don't buy these things but at $25 I sort of couldn't help myself......Todd

>Hi Todd,

My smoother is a Lignum Vitae soled Steiner with an adjustable mouth.

Very good plane - I don't use it much only because of my training, in which I use a No6 for all bench work.

On the occasions that I use it, it performs very well and is a good plane (so much so that I gave away/sold my other smoothers, only keeping this one.)

Cheers,

Andrew
