What's your favorite back saw tooth configuration?

Wendell @ Murphy, TX

>I've picked up three back saws, a 10" saw and 2 12" saws, that I want to get sharpened. I want to get the 10" sharpened cross-cut for use as a fine cutoff saw. I'll have one 12" saw sharpened cross-cut and the other rip. These will be my main joinery saws. What TPI would y'all recommend for these saws?

Ernie Miller Topeka

>That all depends on the thickness of the wood you are going to be using. I beleave that you want at lease 3 and most likely 4 teath in the wood when ripring cutting your DT's So I have two set up for this task one 14 and the other 10 TPI and my cross cut is set at 11 TPI Kind of a compramise to get smooth cuts fairly fast. My big miter box saw is at 10 TPI. It all has to do with the gullet and clearing of chips and smoothness of cut.
