T. Cronkhite you have a virus

Most of the current crop of viruses "harvest" addresseses from all over the infected machine.

It then randomly picks two address for each outbound message, one for the From address and one for the To address.

Thus, you might be listed as the From address and the mail To address is invalid, or gets "bounced" by the destination mail server. In this case, the mail comes back to you claiming you sent a virus etc to someone else.

Or, you may get a mail claiming to be from someone else that you know - but the From address is likely forged - so don't count that as real.

Anyway....

It can all get confusing, but most of the time it's nearly impossible to tell what user sent you a virus. (The IP address is a bit easier to find, but that doesn't tell you much other than what ISP to complain to...)

Cheers,

Greg

>Yeah Bill, Something is definately amiss because I have not sent you any e-mails. I got one from another Islander the other day and I merely deleted it once I realized that it was bogus.

I'm glad that your filter caught it and that it didn't cause you any problems.

Really upsets me that ths kind of thing is able to happen at all. I guess it's one of the cons of this modern electronic age in which we live. Last thing I need is for some $hitbird to be able to smear my good name electronically by sending my friends viries or Lord knows what else under the guise that it was me. Let me catch one of them little bastard hackers and I'll do things to them that'll make women and children scream and grown men cry. Say hello to my little friend you piece of chit, wanna #uck with me huh, have the guts to do it to my face is my way way thinking.

>The worst thing is, Todd, that probably nobody did it to you intentionally - they just set those things loose, and they infect virtually at random.

Don - watching out for email from Typhoid Todd ;-)
