Odd Yankee Spiral Screwdriver

David Miller from Iowa

>I hijacked a thread a couple weeks ago to gloat about this pistol grip spiral screwdriver I picked up. Very nice Bakelite handle with bit storage. Someone asked for a picture.

It has Yankee knurling, takes Yankee bits, and the barrel is the precise diameter of my #130. Marked only WARDs Master Quality. Pat #107007. And the selector button is round instead of the standard Yankee rectangle.

Has anyone seen this before? Did Yankee make this as a house brand for Wards? Did the patents run out and someone else make this?

>I have seen a more then a couple of this type and while i don't have any proof and I could be wrong but I believe they were made overseas in Germany because they are very simular to ones I have seen marked Germany just with a slightly different shapped handle, don't know the name of the company but you also see egg beater drills that look like Millers Falls ones that are made there too. I don't think Yankee made it because they were bought out by Stanley in 1946,[if I remember right] and I think these date from after that......Todd
