High end tool

>I was able to trade an old lantern I picked up at a garage sale for a 24" Starrett rule for a combination square; paid $7 for the lantern, which makes the cost of the rule officially more than $.05, so according to my definition of high end tools it is definitely one high end tool. The rule is about like new although it does have light surface scratches, no rust at all. Living pretty high and looking forward to the weekend. Another auction to check Saturday morning, it just doesn't get any better than this.

>My best deal was for a 1950's "in the box" Record #7. The friend who owned it also had a Stanley #7, which was the one he normally used. I let him "have a go" with a tuned up woodie jack plane, and he loved it.

So...

I purchased and fully tuned another woodie jack (*) and did a straight swap.

My expenditure was 7 GBP total, which in my book was a steal.

(*) OK - I expended some enjoyable shop time.
