Buck Bros chisels
John Longwitz-Doraville, GA
>I just received 10 Buck Bros chisels I won on eBay. They all have the patina acquired over long time periods. One of them is marked Charles Buck, Cast Steel and has a handle that appears equally old. Research tells me he was a spin-off brother starting on his own in 1873. I had intended to refurbish them and use them but any flattening of the backs will remove all the old patina and I'm reluctant to do so. For starters I intend to just hone new bevels and make handles for those lacking. There is no rust or deep pitting on any of them and they all have the feel that only old patinated steel has. I do intend to use them so will report my progress from time to time.
