>The benefits of the LV scraper plane IMO are that you can go along time before having to dress the blade and it's easy to get it ready to go. The tumbscrew + the tilt are brillant. The LV #80 scraper is also great but the plane wins out with curly maple. Buy a couple spare blades it goes alot faster.

>I found the worst looking #112 in this hemisphere, and find that it's more comfortable to use than a #80 or #12 type scraper, mainly because the sole is longer and the plane is held the same as a bench plane. If I were to buy a new LN or LV blade for it, it would perform exactly the same as a brand new LV or LN scraper plane; you could probably put a new blade in your #80 and get better performance. The mouth and sole of a scraper plane is not real critical to it's performance as it is in a plane, so choose whatever style is most comfortable for you.
