>It is a well made shoulder plane, I use it primarily with it's long nose on or with it's bullnose - rarely as a chisel plane. It is a handy size, large enough to quickly fix a tenon but not a boat anchor like the 73.
If you use it in bullnose mode, be careful not to snag your thumb on the recess miiled out for the levercap pin. It has a very sharp point! I don't notice this with the long nose in place because I hold the plane a bit differently in this mode.
Shims are provided to fine tune (widen) the mouth but I always use it without a shim, it can can thick enough shavings for me, without making the mouth wider.
The iron is good and flat, needs only a few minutes to polish the back and put a microbevel on it. Good steel, stays sharp for ages.

I noticed, recently, that the price has gone way up on these since I bought mine (about 8-9 years ago) - you might consider the LN #073 for nearly the same price.
The #073 is a beast, which is what most woodworkers like about it; for me, it was just too heavy and I ended up selling mine.

>If its made like the other Clifton shoulder planes there should be no quality problems. I have a Record 311 and I love it. It's the mini me of the 073 kinda sorta. I like it because of its low center of gravity and it's width. Best of all you can one hand this plane. I like most others never use it as a chisel plane.
